Have to admit in the beginning of the movie, I thought this was something that would keep me on the edge of my seat. Will Shaw goes to see his family during the summer break and you could feel the tension between him and his father, who is played by Bruce Willis as they spend time on their boat.
The next day, Will is preoccupied with his phone calls and that causes an accident with his brother’s girlfriend, who gets hit on the head on a winch. Angry at himself, Will leaves the boat to go into town to get away from everything. He had just found out that his company went bankrupt.
When he comes back, he finds that the boat is gone along with his family. Then he finds the boat but no one is on it. When he reports this to the police, they bring him back to the boat and try to kidnap him. Willis saves the day and takes his son away.
Then he tells him that some people broke into the boat and took the family at gunpoint, leaving him behind. WIll would find out that WIllis is a government agent. Later, he’ll find out that there was a lot more to this when Will finds out that everyone is after a briefcase that Willis took from someone.
From there, the plot device is on the briefcase and it’s up to WIll to find it or his family will be killed. Jean Carrack who is played by Sigourney Weaver, is after the briefcase as well and will do anything to stop Will from getting it.
If you’re satisfied with a leading character like Will who seems to spend his time dodging bullets and running away from people who are trying to kill him, then you may give this a high rating. For me, I grew bored of it and felt that the suspense went down as a result.
That’s the main reason I couldn’t give this movie more than three stars. One movie that comes to mind that had a lot of suspense for me was Abduction. In that movie, Taylor Lautner was battling Russian hit men who were out to kill him as well. For me, there was that memorable fight scene on the train where he killed a Russian agent. That to me kept the suspense in the movie more than this movie did. It’s probably the main reason I gave this movie three stars.
