Well, opening day is upon us. For me, being a San Francisco Giants fan, the season starts on April 1 when we face the Dodgers in Dodger stadium. Great pitching matchup- Cain and Kershaw. Yes, for the first time, it’s Cain on opening day, not Lincecum. At the very least, I hope for a close game with a great battle between these two pitchers.
Good news is that we don’t seem to have any injuries like other teams to. Not sure if we’ll see the Panda bear. He has a key bat in our lineup. Hopefully, his elbow will clear up.
It’s been a rough spring for Lincecum. Oakland A’s roughed him up. I didn’t see much of a change in him since the regular season last year. Falling behind batters, walking them. Cespedes hit a long homer off him. So long that as they said in the movie major league, that ball would have been out of Yellowstone Park. Then again, Lincecum isn’t know for having a great spring before the season. He’s a young pitcher with a lot of talent and as a Giant fan, I’ll be rooting for him to have a great year like he did in the past.
Of course, by the weekend, it will be time to see the predictions. Who will be on top and who won’t. Certainly, if you look around the league, it’s not hard to imagine the Nats, O’s, Reds, and of course the Giants winning their divisions. Yes, let the Dodger fans get angry at me. I don’t think they’re ready to take first place yet but I do see them as a wild card team while the Phillies, Braves, and Cardinals fight for the other one.
So, is this the year that the Yankees don’t go to the playoffs. is the the year they can finish behind the Blue Jays and the Rays. Are the Blue Jays going to be overrated like the Marlins from last year since they grabbed the Marlins castoffs and R.A Dickey? And where will the Red Sox be?
In the AL Central, it’s tough take out the Tigers but I hope that the Royals can finally have that breakout year. So many young players that have a lot of promise like the Pittsburgh Pirates. Might be nice to see these two teams on top although I still root for the White Sox as my favorite American League team.
Then, there is the West. Another great young team in the Oakland A’s who made such a great comeback last year to take out the Rangers. Yet, watch out for the California Angels as they make their impersonation of the Yankees along with the Dodgers in buying players in order to win a pennant. Say what you want about Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder in the same lineup but you have to watch out for Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton now.
In the end, it should be a great year. Look forward to a great year from Posey and Bum. Hopefully, Hunter Pence will be hitting better than he did last year. Vogey and Zito going strong on the mound. Pagan and Scutaro hitting their marks. Can we get 20 homers out of Brandon Belt? Then there will be that end of the year series with the Yankees. I would like to sweep there. We’ll see.
I hope for low ratings on the Rangers - Astros game. I’ll be watching movies on that night. Hit and Run and Killing Me Softly with Brad Pitt. Glad to have Netflx.
