Since I saw the last episode of Fringe yesterday, I thought it would be good to bid it a proper farewell.
I can say that I’m not the biggest science fiction fan although I’m trying to expand on that. If there is a show about time travel, I’m there, ready to watch it whether it was Back to The Future or Quantum Leap.
It’s been a while since there was a good science fiction show on television. The X-Files were great and while I can say that I really enjoy Warehouse 13, I think that Fringe will go down as one of the great science fiction shows.
There were so many things to remember about the show. Walter always knowing what experiment he needed to use to help the team. I remember early on when they needed information on Olivia’s ex-partner, there was Walter going having the ability to help probe his mind with the help of Olivia.
Then there was Olivia being captured in another episode and finding a way to escape. Or Peter finding out that Walter went into a parallel universe to bring him back to his time.
I think the great thing about Fringe was that no matter what the episode was, you never doubted it whether it was a space alien, a shape shifter, or a monster that was on an airplane. All that takes is great script writing.
Then there was the creativity. I loved it when the show broke into a cartoon in several episodes. Then there was the one where Walter needed to remember his videos and the only way he could do that was to go on an acid trip. Great creativity behind the cartoons in that one as well.
To me, the best part of the show was when they went into the parallel universe and Olivia was trapped there while the other Olivia went back to win Peter over. It’s hard to forget the scene when Olivia went to Ellis Island to call Peter for help but wasn’t able to make it.
Then there was the final season when the Fringe team battled the Observers. That seemed like a page out of the Matrix especially when Peter put the chip in himself in order to fight the Observers on their terms.
Of course, we knew that somehow, everything would run its course in the last episode where Walter and the child observer went back to reset time so Olivia and Peter would be reunited with their daughter, Etta.
It was a great show. I really enjoyed it. Hats off to Fox for producing it.
