This was a movie that was supposed to be about a corrupt police officer and his road to redemption. I didn’t see how he was a corrupt cop in the movie and maybe the reason was that it was so confusing.
Much of the movie was build around flashbacks of David Callahan, played Stephen Dorff, being shot and a mysterious man coming to save his life. The man would ask Callahan to help him find out what happened to a dancer named Zhanna Dronov at a strip club by leaving him with her diary.
Nothing is as it seemed throughout the movie, which I thought made the movie even more unbelievable. The other mystery was why James Woods, Walter Goggins, and David Boreanaz being in this movie. Boreanaz seemed at home questioning suspects like he does in the hit TV series, Bones.
As the plot drew closer to finding out what happened to Zhanna, the flashback of Callahan being shot again came back along with other flashbacks of him being at this strip club watching Walter Goggins, who spent time drawing pictures of all the dancers in the bar. All this would lead to a surprising confrontation that further let me down.
By the end, this seemed like a very depressing movie without much of a plot as well. I can only give it two stars.
