I would consider this movie to be very disturbing since it’s about sex trafficking in Mexico. We see two women being abducted from an airport and then a 13 year old girl named Adriana being abducted by several men after being chased down by a car while she is riding her bike.
The plot takes off from there as Jorge, Adriana’s 17 year old brother, finds out that his sister is missing and he goes on a wild chase after them after finding out that his sister is being moved into the United States. Along the way, he meets Kevin Kline, who plays a lawman and has his own reasons to be in Mexico.
The chase to find Jorge’s sister continues with a lot of tension. He’s trying to get across the border to get her away from these men who are selling her as part of a sex trafficking ring. At first, Kline doesn’t believe Jorge’s story but he decides that he wants to help him reunite with his sister.
As the chase continues, I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Adriana would survive the trip to New Jersey along with the other woman. Jorge is doing his best to keep up while trying to build a relationship with Kline.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie and the suspence only builds further because you don’t know what is going to happen next, only hoping that Jorge will find his sister.
What makes the situation more frustrating is the lack of help Kline will receive from his friends.
It was hard for me to enjoy the movie due to the subject matter and the abuse these women faced. Evidently, this is a big problem in the United States right now and that only made the movie more disturbing to me as a result.
With that said, I would agree with the Netflix rating of 4 stars.
