As a Giant fan, I’m not one to cheer what happened to Zack Greinke. I think he is a great pitcher and I love to see teams at their best when they are competing with each other. Seeing Greinke going up against Cain, Bum, or anyone else on the staff makes for a great matchup.
My feeling was that I didn’t understand why Carlos Quentin bothered to charge the mound. I don’t think Greinke was trying to retaliate for the pitch that sailed over Kemp’s head earlier in the game. It was a 3-2 count and he hit him. Maybe you can say that that that was the third time in his career that Greinke hit Quentin or that Quentin was hit 109 times already and was making a statement.
No one else had much to say on it except our announcers Kruk and Kuip. The answer was that it was everyones fault and that Greinke shouldn’t have dropped his glove and said something and because of that, Quentin charged the mound.
In the end, Greinke is out for at least two months and it is a big blow to the Dodgers. I’m sure that Mattingly isn’t happy about it. I’m not sure why Forbes called this injury freakish. The article also points out that Kershaw could get even more money from the Dodgers now because of this.
Dodgers Giants rivalry will probably continue since the Dodgers are still deep in pitching. Sure, someone like Ted Lilly isn’t a Zack Greinke but still, with a $230 million payroll, the Dodgers are in and want what the Giants have.
Yes, the Dodgers have a new rivalry with the Padres now but that doesn’t change the fact that we have one with the Padres as well. Last year, Vogey hit Quentin and that caused the Padres to retaliate and hit Brandon Belt. Vogey said that he was pitching Quentin inside since he hammers balls over the plate.
We can say that it’s part of the game but we have 15 games with the Padres and that means that Vogey and Quentin will see each other again at some point. We’ll see how Quentin reacts since he’s suspended for eight games over his fight with Greinke.
