It’s good to see the new poll come out today in the Washington Post that says that more than 52% of the Americans support gun control. I am certainly one of them and happy to say that I’m all for Piers Morgan.
It’s hard for me to say that I would share the feelings of gun-owners, especially when one group says that you must have the most powerful firearms in the world because if you miss on the first shot, then that person may kill you with his gun.
Of course, if you look at town hall, you would know that none of the columnists are in that 52% One columnist said that the NRA is a scapegoat. Another says that were violating free speech rights. Even new voices like Ted Cruz in Texas says that he wants us to leave guns alone. Anything to dig their heels in this.
Yes, lets blame video games and movies. My feeling on that is that the violence in the movies in this country is tame compared to the violence in movies in many different countries such as China, Japan, or even the UK. You can see my review of a Chow Yun Fat movie Full Contact, which was a big hit in China in 1992. There will be others that I will review on this blog as well.
As far as responsibility is concerned, I think the movie producers will take responsibility for their actions. In Gangster Squad, they changed the movie around so there wouldn’t be a shooting in a movie theater. Many years ago, there was a Jackie Chan movie that was cancelled after 911 since that movies was based on him being a window washer and he would hear about a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
If you want to talk about violent TV shows, go to Hulu Plus and check out shows like Athena: Goddes of War. I’ll be looking at other shows as well and let you know what I find.
I’m not trying to say that we shouldn’t put a limit on movies or video games. In the end, I don’t mean to sound simplistic but somehow, we have to move on and if everyone will take responsibility, meaning both sides, Republicans and Democrats, then maybe we can find a way to stop the gun violence in this country once and for all.
Good luck Joe Biden. Hope everything works out.
